News for the New Generation
TheHamro is an independent digital media platform from Kathmandu, Nepal, telling the stories that matter to a new generation of Nepalis. We began on YouTube on September 9, 2023, and later built this website to cover topics in more depth than a video allows.
What we cover
- Technology and education: Nepal’s tech community, student achievements, conferences, and the skills young people need to compete.
- Science and research: new research from Nepali universities and researchers, explained in plain language.
- Business: startups, entrepreneurs and the economy as it affects young people.
- Awareness and human rights: social issues, rights, and the voices that are often left out of mainstream coverage.
- Opinion: clearly labeled perspectives from our writers and guest contributors.
Why we exist
Young Nepalis deserve news that is accurate, easy to follow, and relevant to their lives. We started TheHamro to cover technology, research, and rights in Nepal for a younger audience, and to give attention to people and ideas that mainstream coverage often overlooks.
Our editorial standards
- Fact-checked before publishing. Every article is reviewed by a designated editor, who verifies claims against primary sources before it goes live.
- Original reporting and writing. Our articles are written for TheHamro. When we rely on another source, we credit and link to it.
- News and opinion are separate. Opinion pieces are labeled as such.
- Corrections. If we make a mistake, we correct it and note the change on the article. Report an error at thehamro@gmail.com.
- Images. We use our own photos, images supplied by organizers, or licensed material, and we credit them.

TheHamro is run by a small team based in Nepal:
- Technology and Education Desk: covers technology, research, education and the tech community.
- Awareness and Human Rights Desk: covers social issues, rights and underrepresented voices.
- National News Desk: covers politics and other national developments.
- Editorial Review: a designated editor fact-checks every article before publication.
