Nepal Codes Through the Night: Highlights from IEEEXtreme 19.0 Nepal
When passion meets perseverance, even 24 hours of nonstop coding feels like a moment of creation. The energy, excitement, and innovation that filled this year’s IEEEXtreme 19.0 Nepal proved once again that Nepal’s engineering and tech community is ready to compete on the global stage.
Organized by the IEEE Nepal Section and hosted by IEEE Student Branches from Pulchowk, Thapathali, NCIT, KEC, and NEC, the 24-hour global coding marathon brought together some of the country’s brightest young minds. Participants tested their endurance, logic, and teamwork while representing Nepal in one of the world’s most competitive programming challenges.
Pulchowk Dominates, NCIT Impresses
In an impressive display of skill and determination, the top four teams came from the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Pulchowk Campus, while the fifth-ranked team, Nightingale, represented NCIT College.
Among all registered Nepali teams, the top five have achieved remarkable global standings out of a total of 8,169 teams worldwide:
- 1st in Nepal – Team CalmlyChaos (Global Rank: 68) – IOE, Pulchowk Campus
- 2nd in Nepal – Team ArrayOfHope (Global Rank: 77) – IOE, Pulchowk Campus
- 3rd in Nepal – Team KIA (Global Rank: 117) – IOE, Pulchowk Campus
- 4th in Nepal – Team SPAX (Global Rank: 507) – IOE, Pulchowk Campus
- 5th in Nepal – Team Nightingale (Global Rank: 621) – NCIT College
Two Nepali teams made it into the global top 100, a historic milestone for Nepal’s IEEEXtreme journey. Final rankings may still improve as results are verified in the coming months.

Celebrating Excellence and Collaboration
The top three teams were recognized by Rock Tech Shop and Mudita Stores, who awarded them with electronics and other exciting prizes. They will also be honored by the IEEE Nepal Section with monetary awards for their outstanding performance.
Beyond competition, the event reflected a growing culture of collaboration and mentorship among students, educators, and professionals – a hallmark of Nepal’s engineering community.
24 Hours of Code, Creativity, and Community
The onsite event saw 61 participants, supported by 5 proctors and numerous guests who dropped by throughout the 24 hours to cheer on the teams. Another 109 participants joined online from their homes across Nepal, making IEEEXtreme 19.0 a truly national celebration of innovation.
The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with late-night brainstorming, quiet determination, and the shared excitement of solving complex global challenges through code.

More Than a Competition
IEEEXtreme is more than just a programming contest. It represents Nepal’s growing presence in global technology and innovation. With increasing participation, strong mentorship, and community spirit, Nepal’s young engineers are proving that world-class talent can come from anywhere, even from a late-night coding session in a lab in Pulchowk or a room in NCIT.
